Privacy notice

This notice explains what information The Welcome Post uses, where it comes from and what you can do about it.
Who we are
The Welcome Post is run by Anthony Butler. For anything about your information, email hello@welcomepost.co.uk. Our postal address is on our contact page.
The booklet
We post The Welcome Post to homes that have recently been sold or let, soon after the new residents move in.
- What we use. The address of the home and roughly when it was sold or let. We do not use names. Each pack is addressed to “The new resident”.
- Where it comes from. Property listing data from a property data supplier, which shows homes marked as sold subject to contract or let agreed. We also use HM Land Registry’s price paid data.
- Why we use it. To welcome new residents with useful local information and offers from local businesses. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests. We think most people moving home would expect and welcome this. The effect on privacy is small, as we use no names and post one pack to each home.
- Bin days. We use the address to find the home’s bin collection days from the council’s published information. Scanning the fridge magnet in the pack opens a page with those bin days, and that page never shows the address.
- Scans. Each fridge magnet has its own code. When it is scanned, we count the scan so we know how often the magnets are used. We do not record who scanned it.
- Who sees it. Only us and anyone who helps us pack and post the booklets. We never sell addresses or share them with the businesses in the booklet.
- How long we keep it. Up to 12 months after posting, so we do not post to the same home twice and can check our figures. Then we delete it.
Stopping it
If you would rather not receive The Welcome Post, email hello@welcomepost.co.uk with the address or write to us at the address on our contact page. We will add it to our do-not-mail list. We keep addresses on that list so we can honour the request.
